Na vijf jaar bouwen aan een nieuwe LEGO Campus in Billund, is de laatste steen gelegd. Tijdens de grote opening had The LEGO Group (TLG) een leuke verrassing gepland staan. Het personeel dat tewerkgesteld wordt op de nieuwe Campus hebben namelijk een LEGO Architecture 4000038 LEGO Campus set als cadeau gekregen! Meer over deze set en de grote opening kan je hier lezen.
Tijdens de opening van het LEGO Campus, de nieuwe thuisbasis en centrum van creativiteit voor zo’n 2000 personeelsleden, is een nieuwe set onthuld. Wegens de grote opening had TLG een leuke verrassing gepland voor de mensen die daar tewerkgesteld zijn. Verschillende personeelsleden deelden via social media dat ze een LEGO Architecture 4000038 LEGO Campus als cadeau gekregen hebben. Het is niet de eerste keer dat TLG een set uitbrengt van een nieuwe campus, maar het blijft desalniettemin een mooi gebaar. Meer over de nieuwe LEGO Campus kan je hieronder bekijken.
De set valt onder het Architecture thema en bevat 1494 onderdelen. Hoewel de set dezelfde indeling heeft als een 18+ set, draagt het een ander leeftijdslabel. Doordat de set aan personeelsleden is weggegeven, is het zo goed als zeker dat de set niet officieel verkrijgbaar zal zijn. Zoals wel vaker het geval vinden deze sets hun weg naar allerhande verkoopkanalen. Mocht je ze daar vinden, kunnen verzamelaars ze alsnog – mits de hoofdprijs – op de kop tikken.
Opening van de nieuwe LEGO Campus
Het heeft zo’n vijf jaar geduurd, maar het LEGO Campus is eindelijk klaar. Het is de nieuwe werkplek voor zo’n 2000 personeelsleden en moet het centrum van creativiteit worden. Het LEGO Campus is ongeveer 54.000 vierkante meter groot en is de thuisbasis voor personeel van over de hele wereld. Met de LEGO gedachtegang in het achterhoofd is het kantoor zo ontwikkeld dat er plaats is voor verbeelding, plezier, creativiteit, zorgzaamheid, inclusiviteit en bovenal kwaliteit. Er is volop ingezet in een flexibele werkomgeving en is er plaats voor de nodige ontspanning. Met de verduurzaming binnen de TLG is er tijdens de constructie hier heel wat aandacht aan besteed. BILLUND, DENMARK, April 5th, 2022.: After five years of construction and planning, the LEGO Group is celebrating the official opening of its state-of-the-art Campus at its headquarters in Billund, Denmark today. Designed by C.F. Møller Architects, the campus spans 54,000 square metres, creating an innovative workplace for approx. 2000 colleagues, and a home away from home for all LEGO Group colleagues across the world.
Reflecting the LEGO Group values of ‘Imagination, Fun, Creativity, Caring, Learning, and Quality’, the Campus has been designed to provide a playful, inclusive, and collaborative environment that enables employees to develop the best play experiences for children all over the world.
An important element in LEGO® Campus is the ‘People House’ a concept developed in close collaboration with employees that provides a space for all colleagues to network and play during and after working hours. With initial designs first developed in 2014, the ‘People House’ is just one of the many features across the campus that enables a more flexible environment to work and play and is reflective of the hybrid working style that is in place across the LEGO Group. Created as a place for relaxation, inspiration and recharging, the ‘People House’ features facilities including: a state-of-the-art fitness studio, creative workshop space, a LEGO homestay for visiting employees, a cinema, outside park and activity zone, kitchen for communal cooking and networking and a health clinic. Employees’ families are also welcome to use the facilities.

Creating a sustainable workplace Sustainability is a focus for the LEGO Group, and this has been central to the design of the new Campus. Achieving a Gold level LEED certification, the Campus is a high quality, low-energy office building partly powered by solar panels installed on the roof of the nearby parking facility.
In addition, the Campus also features:
- Special gypsum fibreboard – which saved 650,000 kg of emissions during construction, additionally 1000 tons of construction waste was recycled during the construction process
- Sedum plants on roof surfaces collecting rainwater which irrigates the surrounding green spaces
- Workplace waste is sorted into 10 different categories
- Flexible and open workspaces with “green” partitions of plants and planters
- All outdoor furniture was made from waste LEGO Bricks. 5000 kg of LEGO waste has been recycled.
- A focus on biodiversity with a wealth of indigenous plants, trees and natural environments planted to support wildlife
LEGO Campus will officially open from April 5th for all LEGO colleagues and their families. Celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, the LEGO group has grown from a small carpenter’s workshop to a brand present in more than 130 countries worldwide.
